How Palette Extraction Works

Also searched as: color picker from image online free | image color picker | get color code from image | eyedropper tool online

Dominant color extraction uses a simplified K-means clustering algorithm. The image pixels are sampled (every 4th pixel for performance), then grouped into N clusters by color similarity. The centroid (average) of each cluster becomes a palette color. This approximates how designers identify the key colors in a composition — you'll get the most visually prominent and representative colors from the image.

The pixel-level eyedropper is exact — it reads the precise RGB values of the clicked pixel directly from the canvas. The magnifier helps you zoom in for sub-pixel accuracy. The only variation is JPEG compression artifacts — colors in compressed JPEGs may differ slightly from the original image due to lossy compression noise.
